What To Wear For Spring Pictures

I love photographing portraits in the spring! It’s no wonder why it’s one of the most popular seasons for photos. The vibrant colors of the flowers, the dreamy glow from the sun setting, and the warming weather make it the perfect time! That being said, what to wear for pictures in the spring is one of my most frequently asked questions.

Everyone wants to look and feel their best in photos. I think choosing a flattering outfit that you feel comfortable in is key! I’ve written several blog posts before on what to wear for your senior pictures, photos in the winter, and equine photos.

However, I want to share tips specific to the spring season. Hopefully, you can take some inspiration from it! Graduation is approaching for seniors, which means it’s time to start picking what to wear for senior pictures this spring.

The best colors for pictures in the spring

Lighter neutrals and pastels are going to be your best bet for spring photos. For instance, look for neutrals like beige and white or pastels like pink, blue and yellow. They will look stunning in any location.

It’s time for spring floral prints.

Floral blouses, dresses, and rompers will photograph beautifully. Keep in mind that small patterns tend to look distorted on camera. Larger floral prints will look great!

Dresses & skirts are perfect for spring pictures.

As with any season, dresses and skirts are the most flattering choice for photos. There are so many style options. You are bound to find one that fits your style.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when selecting what to wear for spring pictures:

  1. Choosing flowy fabrics will allow for movement in images. Twirling photos are fun to incorporate in a photoshoot and usually lead to giggles!

2. If your dress feels so short that you consistently need to pull it down, choose another dress. It’s not worth being uncomfortable. It helps to try on your dress before the photoshoot to check the fit and an it’s a good opportunity to find matching accessories early on.

3. If you are a senior who wants to wear your cap & gown for photos, choose a dress that looks good with them. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook this detail. You don’t want a dress that’s the same color as your gown.

Spring shoes

Sandals, booties and wedges pair well with spring dresses. Find what works best with your dress. You might find that a slight heel is your favorite choice. Past clients have found this to be true.

Let’s accessorize

Accessories change the feel of an outfit and add variety to images. You can’t go wrong with simple jewelry or hats. Grab your favorite sun hat for your session!

Flowers

In another blog post, I’ve shared prop ideas for senior pictures. There I explained how I don’t love props like signs in photos. I do love fresh florals! They give images an extra pop of color. If you can’t find fresh florals in the right color, you might be able to find some realistic fake ones too.
