Summer senior pictures are my favorite. While summertime isn’t the only season for photos, these ideas might convince you to consider it.
This season is known for its warm weather and sunshine. It’s much easier to spend 1-2 hours outside posing for the camera when you aren’t freezing. Plus, there’s a greater likelihood that your session will happen as planned. In months like the winter or spring, there is a higher chance for rain or snow, which may lead to rescheduling dates.
Sports, clubs, and homework keep schedules busy during the school year. Often schedules in the summer are more flexible for students.
Sunset is later in the summertime. The golden hour is known for its soft, dreamy lighting. For summer senior pictures, your photos will begin 1-2 hours before sunset. To get an estimated time on specific date you can visit a sunset calculator.
Beautiful flowers and colorful landscapes make these months of the year beautiful for outdoor photos. Many seniors will look for locations with flowers in bloom for their sessions.
It’s much easier to wear clothes like dresses, rompers, and sandals in the summer. In the fall and winter months, you will be wearing outfits with sweaters and layers to stay warm.
Most yearbooks require a senior picture submission in the fall (Oct. or Nov.) to ensure time for designing and printing yearbooks. If you wait to book a session, your photographer might not be available. Portraits in the summer allow you plenty of time to get images and select your favorite for the yearbook.
If there’s a photographer you would like to book with, I suggest reaching out months in advance. It’s not too early to schedule a session. Often senior portrait spots fill up fast.
