Fall Family Photos

Fall family photos are just around the corner. Don’t worry, I have a few tips to help you start preparing pictures. This includes when to schedule them, what to wear, choosing a location, and tips for families with little ones.

When to schedule fall family pictures

For fall pictures, it’s best to get them booked for a time between September and November. However, don’t wait to book photos until then. This time of year is very popular for pictures and can book up quickly.

What to wear for fall family photos

First, I would recommend sticking with neutral or autumn colors. Stay away from bright colors. These will divert too much attention away from your family. The eye will be immediately drawn to any bright color.

Color ideas: white, navy blue, maroon, burnt orange, beige, emerald green, and pastels

Secondly, coordinate your outfits rather than match them. This adds more dimensions to your fall family photos.

Dresses photograph beautifully and are very flattering for mothers and daughters. If you’re worried about being too chilly a sweater, blouse, shacket, or cardigan with jeans could also make a great choice. You can pair these with accessories such as fall boots, scarves, and/or earrings.

For fathers and sons looking for a casual outfit, a t-shirt or button-up with jeans works. Flannels are a good choice for fall family photos. Just be sure to avoid t-shirts with logos or writing on them. To create a dressier look, opt for a button-up shirt, blazer, and slacks.

Tips for families with little ones

I suggest bringing their favorite toy and snack to keep little ones entertained and excited about getting photos. Giving them something to look forward to after photos can help too. For example, going somewhere or getting ice cream. Additionally, it can be helpful to have a family member or friend join you to keep track of kids while getting parent photos.
